tales of something simple - the story behind glasbern

i believe

Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.

all types of chaos

the story behind glasbern

I am asked a lot about Glasbern.  For the past (going on) four years, I’ve used “Glasbern” on and off as an alias (yeah right, we all know who I am).  Most of the time people don’t even say it right (it’s Glass-burn, not Glaz-bern).  It is a very special place near and dear to me that I think fits particularly well for this blog because of its significance in my life.

Glasbern Inn is a beautiful, remote location in Fogelsville, PA, otherwise known as a B & B.  Many people think of random little holes in the wall at the shore or in the Pocono’s as one-night stops, where Mom and Pop cook you breakfast on the other side of the wall.  I’d call Glasbern a new age B & B.  A whirlpool tub that can fit 4 (we didn’t, I promise), a steam shower, personal wet bar, den, king size bed, porch, farm, flat screen and rustic view–my kind of time.

My then boyfriend, now husband, took me there in 2006 and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  The serenity, happiness and excitement we shared all by ourselves there made Glasbern a literal part of us and we love to talk about it.  We have been dying to go back since then and plan to this November to celebrate a variety of milestones.  Glasbern hasn’t been so much a place as it has been a feeling.  And coming up on reflecting four years more of our relationship that has passed, it makes me feel as though we’ve ended up right where we should be regardless of life’s curve balls and chaos: together.

Some people have Paris.

We’ll always have Glasbern.  And each other.
